State Solo Ensemble

If your child received a 1st division rating at Solo Ensemble this past Saturday and wishes to go on to State, a registration fee must be collected before Friday. Unfortunately this is a very quick turn around and doesn't give us much time to register. I must submit the registration material by the end of the day on Friday.

The fee is as follows:

9th Grade Solo: $15
10th-12th Grade Proficiency Solo $21

For the quick turn around in the registation, cash would be preferred.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank all the parents, band boosters and community members for a wonderful time celebrating Kevin Fuller's life at the memorial dinner. It was so nice to see such a huge turnout and be with so many good people. Many great memories were shared and funny stories told. It was truly a special night and I'm sure Kevin had a big smile on his face the whole time!

IMPORTANT UPDATES ABOUT FRIDAY 1-27-12

Parents and Students,

The school closing today have made some difficulties for tonight as we prepare for the Kevin Fuller Memorial Dinner. The dinner and performance are still scheduled as normal. If any students or parents can be to school early to help move equipment it would be greatly appreciated. I plan on being at school today from 2:00 onward.

Solo Ensemble Students - I will give you the originals tonight. If you would like to come in to school today to play with Mrs. Beemer please send me an email and stop on in. I've asked her to come in at 2:00.

Music for Tonight - We will still play Be Still My Soul, Salvation is Created and we hopefully have time to run through Acceptance before the performance tonight.

This is a quick reminder on the dinner and performance for Kevin Fuller tomorrow. In the previous letters we asked High School and 8th Grade members to bring a dish to pass and a package of buns for the pork sandwiches the boosters will be serving. If this is something your family can do we really need the help.

HS and 8th student should arrive around 6:00 for last minute set up responsibilites.

New High School/8th Grade Performance

We are adding a performance to our calendar on Friday, January 27th from 6:30-8:30 for a memorial dinner, performance and community gathering for Kevin Fuller.

This event is a gathering time for the community to get together and reflect on the life of Kevin and the time we had with him. The Band Boosters and I are asking band families to bring a dish to pass and donate a bag of rolls for the sandwiches. The Bands Booster se

This event is also open to the whole community and tickets will be on sale soon for $3 per person available in the high school office. Proceeds from the event and raffle will help in the funding of the commissioned music we are having written in Kevin’s name.

Dear Morley Stanwood Band parents,

First I would like to introduce myself. My name is Dustin Sprague. I am studying music education at Alma College and I will be student teaching under Mr. VanStrien for the semester. I graduated from Chippewa Hills in 2007 and went on to study music because I wanted to develop my own skill and help continue the tradition of musical excellence and appreciation that I learned from my own teachers.

I will be working primarily with 6th grade band and elementary students until district festival is over and will be excited to take on more responsibility with the older students as we approach the spring concert. I have already been working with individual students on solo and ensemble literature and will continue aiding Mr. VanStrien with sectional rehearsals and individual lessons as I learn to efficiently run a public school music program.

I am very excited to continue teaching your children to become better soloists and ensemble members. There are some very talented young musicians here and it will be extremely valuable for me to see and be part of helping these students mature and develop even in the short time that I am here. I look forward to meeting you and I hope you will be impressed with what we achieve by the end of the semester.

This semester we are welcoming Mr. Dustin Sprague as a student teacher who will be working with the bands in what is sure to be a very busy semester. Mr. Sprague is finishing his Music Education Degree from Alma College and will graduate at the end of the semester. Please feel free to stop in and say hello and welcome him to Morley Stanwood!

Holiday Arts Concert Reminder

Reminder - The Holiday Arts Concert will be held on December 14th at 7:00 for the Middle School and High School. The concert will be held in the High School Cafetorium. This concert will feature the 6^th Grade Beginning, 7^th Grade Band and the High School Concert Band.

Middle School band members are expected to dress nicely for this event. Please, no jeans, t-shirts, etc... High School Students will wear their uniforms.

Setup crewmembers will need to report to the High School at at 3:30
